An Akron man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of multiple counts of rape and other offenses involving two young girls, authorities said.

Jeffery M. Burks, 54, of Baird Street, received the mandatory sentence from Summit County Common Pleas Judge Tammy O’Brien. There is no provision for parole.

On April 18, a jury convicted Burks of four counts of rape and four additional counts of gross sexual imposition. Court records show that jurors returned their verdict in 45 minutes.

Prosecutors said Burks assaulted the girls when they stayed at his Akron home overnight on three occasions in 2012 and 2013. Both girls were under the age of 13 at the time.
