NEW FRANKLIN: If you need a life jacket this summer at Portage Lakes, a Wayne County Eagle Scout has you covered.

Andrew Villers, 17, of Doylestown came up with the idea of a life jacket loaner station at the Old State Park next to the boat ramp.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and the Ohio State Parks and Watercraft Division teamed up Villers to make the project workable.

“Through Andrew’s leadership, dedication, and hard work, this station is ready for the 2018 boating season,” the Summit County Sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The new loaner station will make its debut 4 p.m. Thursday, when local officials will recognize Villers for his work.
