Car-seat check

AKRON: The Safe Kids Coalition of Summit County is hosting a free car-seat check and recycling event from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Center for Child Development at the University of Akron, 108 Fir Hill Drive.

Safe Kids also is collecting used car seat and bike helmets to recycle from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Sept. 7 at the Akron Childrenís Hospitalís Exchange Street building, 130 W. Exchange St.

Slaby office hours

BATH TWP.: State Rep. Marilyn Slaby, R-Copley Township, will host district office hours to listen to constituents from 7 to 8 tonight at the Fairlawn-Bath Branch of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 3101 Smith Road.

Adoption meeting

AKRON: Summit County Children Services will hold a free foster-care and adoption information meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Portage Lakes Branch of the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 4261 Manchester Road, New Franklin.

At the end of June, 44 children in agency custody were waiting to be adopted. Of those, 39 were 12 years or older.

Society meeting

AKRON: The Scottish American Society will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St.

The meeting will include a presentation by Marnie Sweet about her recent stay in China.

Animal time

HUDSON: Rescued farm animals from the Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary will visit Rejoice Lutheran Church on Stow Road in Hudson at 7 p.m. Sept. 13.

Goats Odessa and Natasha; Kachina, the mini horse; Gershwin and Kitaro, ex-cockfighting roosters, and Sgt. Pepper, a pot-bellied pig, will make special appearances at the free family event.

Sanctuary director Annette Fisher will explain the shelterís role.

Raffle prizes, free goodies and a drawing to spend a day at the sanctuary will be part of the event.

Founded in 2000, Happy Trails is home to about 100 rescued animals.

The sanctuary at 5623 New Milford Road in Ravenna Township serves the law enforcement and humane societies of Ohio and often surrounding states.

Family fun day

CUYAHOGA FALLS: A Family Fun Day Fundraiser for Judge Amy Corrigall Jones of Summit County Common Pleas Court will be held Saturday at 3406 Crestwood Circle.

The fundraiser will offer inflatables, caricature artists and other entertainment.

Suggested donation is $75 per family.

Democratic event

BARBERTON: The Barberton Magic City Democratic Club and the Green Democratic Club will host a free meet-and-greet with Summit County Democratic candidates for judge.

The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Lake Anna Hall, 542 W. Park Ave.
