Blood drive for band
HUDSON: A drive to raise blood for the American Red Cross and money for the Hudson High School Music Association will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 8.
Bleed for the Band will be conducted at the Hudson High School commons, 2500 Hudson-Aurora Road.
New blood donors can save time by registering at www.?redcrossblood.org.
The Hudson group will earn a fee based on how many people give blood.
The group financially supports the high school’s band, choir and orchestra.
Corsair club event
FRANKLIN TWP.: The Corsair Model Aircraft Club will hold an open house Aug. 11 to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The club was launched in 1962 as a Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. employee club called the Goodyear Model Aircraft Club. In 1993, members took over the reins and renamed it in honor of Goodyear’s historic connection to wartime production of the Corsair fighter plane.
In 2009, the club lost its home of nearly 40 years at the Summit County Fairgrounds in Tallmadge and found a new home at 6743 State Route 43, just north of the Kent border.
The free open house will be held from 9 a.m. to at least 4 p.m. and feature flight demonstrations, static displays of all types of model aircraft, and computer and flight simulators.
Club members will be on hand to answer questions about model aviation and talk about club activities.

Rally against bullies
AKRON: National Night Out Against Crime will present Don’t Stand for Bullies, Stand for Peace from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7 on Goodyear Boulevard in front of the Linda Theatre.
The event will feature speakers, free food, refreshments, live entertainment and games.

Fundraiser in Green
GREEN: Ward 4 City Councilman John “Skip” Summerville will hold a wine and cheese-tasting fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at Jerzees, 1019 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Road.
Cost is $35 per person.
Benefit for judge
COPLEY TWP.: A birthday celebration fundraiser for Judge Kathryn Michael will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 10 at St. George Social Hall, 3204 Ridgewood Road.
Michael is an Akron municipal judge and is running for Summit County Common Pleas Court.
Suggested donations are $150 per person.
