A 25-year-old Akron man was ejected from his vehicle early Wednesday morning during a suspected street race in East Akron.

The man survived the crash, which occurred in the 1000 block of Kelly Avenue shortly after midnight.

The driver lost control of vehicle, which jumped a sidewalk, drove through a fence, struck a utility pole and hit a parked car. The driver landed about 20 feet from his vehicle.

The crash also ejected the engine of the vehicle. The engine struck the roof of another vehicle traveling north on Kelly Avenue and came to a stop in the middle of the road, according to reports.

Another parked vehicle lost a side mirror because of flying debris from the crash.

According to Beacon Journal news partner News 5 Cleveland, the ejected driver was hurt but was walking around when police and firefighters arrived on the scene. A 28-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had to be freed from the car but was also conscious and talking at the scene. Both had injuries, but neither was seriously hurt.

Police said they canít confirm the crash was part of a street race, but News 5 reported that witnesses said they believed drivers were racing.
