Authorities had not released the name of a 44-year-old Akron man who was found shot to death early Saturday in West Akron.

Someone called police just before 4 a.m. after finding a dead man in the grass in the 1100 block of Nome Avenue.

Officers said the man had been shot several times. A witness reported hearing gunshots about 3:30 a.m.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office was to conduct an autopsy.

Authorities were withholding the man’s identity until his family could be notified.

Lt. Rick Edwards said police are seeking the public’s help to figure out what happened.
