Massillon police are investigating a double shooting that took place Saturday.

Police said at about 9:30 p.m., a woman called 911 and told dispatchers that her husband had been shot while standing in front of a detached building to the rear of their residence in the 400 block of 24th Street Northwest.

When police arrived, they found Dustin S. Woods, 33, lying on the ground from an apparent gunshot to the head. He was taken to a local hospital.

Police said they learned the detached building was the home of 73-year-old William M. McCullough, who rented the residence from Woods. They were not immediately able to determine whether McCullough was inside.

The Canton Regional SWAT Cooperative was called to the scene, where officers began talking with McCullough and confirmed he was in the home.

At about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the residence.

They found McCullough incapacitated, but still breathing, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was also taken to a local hospital.

Both men died in the hospital from their injuries.

Detectives said they are still gathering information about the incident, and it is under investigation.
