CANTON TWP.: Authorities said a school bus carrying more than 50 Minerva school children was involved in an accident Monday afternoon, but no one appeared to be seriously injured.

The State Highway Patrol said eight students were transported to nearby hospitals in Canton. It is unclear the extent of their injuries, though officials called them minor.

Highway officials said the crash happened about 1 p.m. and involved the bus and a pickup truck traveling on U.S. Route 30 near Trump Avenue.

The crash occurred on US 30 eastbound west of Trump Avenue in Canton Township, Stark County.

Troopers say Scott A. Bourquin, 48, of Canton was inside a 2002 Chevrolet 2550 pickup and pulling a directional arrow sign. The 2006 school bus, with 51 passengers on board, was driven by Carol Cogan, 71, of Minerva.

Both vehicles were eastbound on U.S. 30. Trooper said the bus driver said she was distracted by a disruptive child when the bus struck the right rear of the pickup trailer.

The bus driver was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance, troopers said.
