APPLE CREEK: Southeast Local Schools were closed Monday because of a perceived threat that turned out to be a misunderstanding, the Wooster Daily Record reports.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office found an unlocked door at 3:30 a.m. Monday at Waynedale High School and also discovered a newspaper article with a sports team’s picture and a target on it in the school, the newspaper said.

The district opted to close for the day.

It turns out that a staff member accidentally left the door open and the picture was being used to motivate the team, the Daily Record reported.

Last week, the district found a message threatening violence at Waynedale on Monday.
