New storm bears down
A second major winter storm was bearing down on the central Plains Sunday, forcing cancellations and sending public works crews scrambling for salt and sand supplies less than a week after another system dumped more than a foot of snow on parts of the region. The National Weather Service issued a blizzard watch from Sunday evening through late tonight for much of western Kansas ahead of the strong storm system packing high winds and sleet that has been tracking across western Texas toward Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. The area was hit by a massive storm last week that dumped a foot of snow in some sections, closed airports and caused numerous accidents.
Unruly teens upset mall
Nineteen teenagers were arrested following a disturbance that shut down a Chicago shopping mall and left two people with minor injuries. Chicago police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak said the teens arrested Saturday were males and females ranging in age from 13 to 18. Most are charged with misdemeanor mob action. A 16-year-old is charged with battery of a mall security guard who was trying to evacuate the mall. Ford City Mall senior general manager John Sarama said the incident wasn’t related to an appearance by the boy band Mindless Behavior, which ended about 45 minutes earlier.
Shooting suspect sought
A 26-year-old man was being sought Sunday as the prime suspect in a pre-dawn shooting on the Las Vegas Strip last week which led to a fiery crash that left three people dead and several others injured. Las Vegas police Capt. Chris Jones said Sunday that investigators are working around the clock to sort through evidence and find Ammar Harris following the discovery Saturday of a black SUV used as a getaway car in the shooting and six-vehicle chain-reaction carnage on the neon-lit boulevard near the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Bally’s and Flamingo resorts. An aspiring rapper driving a Maserati was shot to death Thursday, and two people in a taxi died in a crash and fireball when the Maserati hit their vehicle.
