LEBANON, OHIO: A former Southwest Ohio police official’s new trial in his wife’s 1995 death is scheduled for November.

Former Springboro Police Lt. Thomas “Jim” Barton spent more than a decade behind bars in the death of his wife, Vickie, before his 2005 manslaughter conviction was overturned. Investigators alleged she was killed as part of a botched burglary Barton paid to have staged. The 61-year-old has maintained his innocence.

A pre-trial hearing is set for this Friday. Barton’s trial is scheduled to begin Nov. 3.

His conviction was overturned based on a finding of prosecutorial misconduct and questions about a witness’ testimony. He was released after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to reinstate the conviction.

Barton has been living at his Springboro home since posting a $350,000 bond in April.
