A 41-year-old Akron man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for the armed robbery last summer of Emidio’s pizza restaurant on North Main Street, authorities said.

George W. Beeler, who was homeless, walked into Emidio’s on Aug. 25, pulled out a gun and robbed the restaurant of about $800, prosecutors said.

The owner called 911, gave Beeler’s description to the police dispatcher and was able to identify the direction in which Beeler fled.

Police found Beeler sitting on the steps of a Schiller Avenue home, counting the money. He admitted to committing the robbery, which was captured on the restaurant’s security cameras, prosecutors said.

A Summit County jury previously convicted Beeler of aggravated robbery with a gun specification and possession of a weapon under previous felony disability.

Common Pleas Judge Tammy O’Brien handled the case.
