LORDSTOWN: A farmer is threatening to create a giant chicken farm — and bring the foul odor that comes along with it — if neighbors prevent a large distribution center from being built on his Trumbull County property.

Harvey Lutz spread chicken manure on his land closest to houses along Hallock Young Road to irritate the neighbors, the Business Journal reported.

Neighbors and others have protested the potential construction of a TJX HomeGoods distribution center.

“We gave them a little taste of what it’s going to smell like,” Lutz, owner of Lutz Farms, told the publication about why he dumped the manure. “They have Choice A or Choice B.”

TJX Companies Inc., owner of TJ Maxx and Marshalls department stores, announced plans to build a $160 million distribution center for its HomeGoods stores on 290 acres in Lordstown. The company expected to create about 1,000 jobs. But the land needs to be rezoned and the Business Journal said TJX is now looking elsewhere due to the opposition.
