COLUMBUS: Gov. John Kasich is launching an effort to stomp out human trafficking in Ohio.
The Republican governor signed an executive order Thursday directing state agencies to work together to identify the most effective ways to rescue victims, get them help, and prosecute those who abduct and exploit them.
Kasich is joined by Attorney General Mike DeWine, who has set up a hotline and website educating the public to spot signs of human trafficking.
Kasich, the father of twin teenage daughters, grew emotional as he described Ohio teenagers being “snatched” and forced into prostitution. He said abductors are “despicable human beings” who must be imprisoned.
He will be appearing with Theresa Flores, a human trafficking victim, in televised public service announcements as part of the effort.
