COLUMBUS: The Ohio Statehouse is marking the anniversary of the repose of President Abraham Lincoln following his assassination 150 years ago.

After the Civil War president was shot and killed on April 15, 1865, his body was carried across the country for viewing by mourners. It lay in repose in Ohio that April 29.

The Capitol is commemorating the anniversary Wednesday with cannon firings, an honor guard and other events. A replica casket will be on display in the Rotunda, where the public is invited to place fresh flowers.

The Statehouse is decorated as it was at the time, with black bunting dramatically wrapping the columns and a sign correctly portraying a famous misquote displayed at the time: “With malice to no one, with charity for all.”
