A pickup truck struck an Amish buggy from behind at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 301 in Homer Township in southwestern Medina County, seriously injuring all three people in the buggy, including a 2-year-old girl, authorities said.

Joseph Swartzentruber, 25, and his wife, Katie Swartzentruber, 23, both of Spencer, were taken to Akron General Medical Center. Their 2-year-old daughter Lizzie was taken to Akron Childrenís Hospital.

Joseph Swartzentruber was driving the horse-drawn buggy north on Route 301 near Black River School Road when it was rear-ended and pushed off the road by a Ford F-150 driven by Justin Frey, 28, of Cleveland, the State Highway Patrol said. The horse had to be put down because of its injuries.

Frey was not injured. His vehicle was damaged and towed from the scene.

The accident remains under investigation, but alcohol was not a factor in the crash, the Highway Patrolís Medina post said.
