A Kent man was arrested after passing out at a traffic light on state Route 43 where dozens of officers were stationed to secure the road for President Barack Obamaís motorcade Wednesday afternoon.

It was the seventh drunken driving arrest since 1992 for Timothy W. Mullins, 39, police said.

Brimfield Police Chief David Oliver said a motorist called the department about 4 p.m. to report an unconscious driver stopped on the northbound lanes of Route 43 at Old Forge Road.

Patrolman Lee Allen found the driver. He said Mullinsí 2003 Ford was still in drive and the manís foot was on the brake when the officer roused him from his sleep.

Allen said Mullins smelled of alcohol and had three partially burned marijuana cigarettes in his car.

Oliver said there were more than 50 officers from his department, Kentís and Ravennaís, as well as State Highway Patrol troopers in the area of Route 43 in preparation for Obamaís visit to Kent State University.
