SHELBY, OHIO: Police say an Ohio man fatally shot himself in the head by accident while waving a gun that he was showing to relatives.
Officers say the shooting happened Sunday in Shelby, about 65 miles north of Columbus. Police say 36-year-old Jeremy Ammons of rural Marengo died Monday at a Columbus hospital.
Shelby police Sgt. John Magers tells the Mansfield News-Journal comments from witnesses indicated Ammons had been showing relatives the gun he kept with his concealed carry permit. Magers says Ammons had removed the magazine and cleared a round from the chamber but apparently accidentally loaded another round before the gun fired as he waved it.
