A Republican member of the Summit County Board of Elections is weighing not seeking a reappointment.
ďIím thinking I might step down,Ē Ray Weber said Tuesday after a brief and uneventful county elections board meeting.
Weber has until Saturday morning to decide.
The Summit County GOPís executive committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Portage Country Club, 240 N. Portage Path, to pick a board candidate to suggest to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted.
The memberís term would begin March 1.
Weber and Wayne Jones, the Democratic Party chairman, are the two members of the four-member Summit elections board whose terms are up this year. The Summit County Democratic Party recently met and recommended Jones be reappointed to the seat he has held since 1998.
Weber, an attorney, has been on the elections board for four years, seeing the board through some contentious times, including periods when Summit tallied more tie votes than any other elections board in Ohio. He served 12 years on the county school board and is a member of the countyís library board.
ďIím still wrestling with it,Ē Weber said of his decision about whether to continue on the elections board.
