RAVENNA: At-large city Councilman Frederick L. Berry has died. He was 69.

“He was an unwavering advocate for all the citizens of Ravenna and worked tirelessly to improve the community he loved,” the city said in a statement on its website. “He will be greatly missed by all he served. Our deepest condolences go out to the Berry family.”

The city described his passing as sudden, but no cause was given for his death. Berry was appointed to the council in 2010 and won election in 2011 and 2013.

He was a coach for the Ravenna Hot Stove Baseball League, was a commissioner for Ravenna Youth Football and had run his own business, FM Packaging, the Kent Ravenna Record-Courier reported.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home, 141 Meridian St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 409 W. Main St. The burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
