Meeting in Ward 4

AKRON: Ward 4 Councilman Russel Neal Jr. will have a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lawton Street Community Center, 1225 Lawton St.

Akron police officers will provide information on how to form a block club and how existing clubs can work together better.

Neal will give an update on what is being done to address violence in the community. Lisa Denson Littlejohn, the Ward 4 Quality of Life coordinator, will show a PowerPoint presentation on a plan for community engagement in the ward.

COVENTRY TOWNSHIP

Fly-fishing classes

COVENTRY TWP.: Anglers ages 10 to 15 years old are invited to attend fly-fishing classes for beginners. The first class will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Other classes will be May 16 and May 30. The classes are being offered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Wildlife.

Classes will be held at the ODNR offices at 912 Portage Lakes Drive. Adults must accompany youngsters, but will not be able to participate.

CUYAHOGA FALLS

Howe ramp closing

CUYAHOGA FALLS: The entrance ramp from Howe Ave­nue onto state Route 8 north will be closed for 45 days starting Tuesday for embankment repairs, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.

The detour involves Main Street, Newberry Street and Broad Boulevard. The work is part of a $200,000 project.

Bike fair at school

MEDINA: The Medina Bicycle Fair will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Medina High School’s senior commons area at 777 E. Union St.

The event is free to the public. Residents are invited to bring their bicycles for a free safety inspection.

The Medina Bicycle Fair is part of the first Medina Bike to School Challenge sponsored by Century Cycles on May 7 through May 28.

Free shredding day

MEDINA: The Medina American Legion Post 202 will provide its semiannual shredding service from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Veterans Memorial Hall, 620 N. Broadway St.

Residents can drop off items and even remain to view the shredding process. Books, plastic items and items containing metal will not be accepted. Old flags will be accepted for disposal.

There is no charge for the service, but donations will be appreciated.

Talk on Civil War

CUYAHOGA FALLS:. The General A. C. Voris Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library, 2015 Third St.

The meeting will feature guest speaker Kelly D. Selby, Civil War and Women’s history professor at Walsh University. Selby will speak on black Civil War soldiers from Ohio.

The meeting is free to the public.
