MASSILLON

Postal carrier rescues woman

MASSILLON: A postal carrier is being hailed as a hero after he helped an elderly woman who had fallen and broken her hip a few weeks ago.

Jean Stewart fell outside her home and then dragged herself into the house, where she lay for at least 24 hours before being discovered by carrier Donnie Lance, the Massillon Independent reports.

He looked in the window to see her on the floor after noticing something amiss.

“Her enclosed porch is always unlocked for me so when it was locked and then I came back a second day and it was still locked, it was a red flag,” Lance said. “Luckily, the Lord placed her where I could see her.”

Stewart underwent surgery and is recovering.

Man killed in accident

HARRISVILLE TWP.: A Delphos man was killed Monday night in a three-vehicle accident on I-71.

Matthew J. Krendel, 54, was stopped in the southbound right-hand lane when a semi-truck driven by Petrsor Adrian, 45, of Quebec, Canada, crashed into his Toyota 4 Runner, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Both vehicles went off the right side of the road and over an embankment into a wooded area. Krendel was killed.

Debris from the crash struck a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Bryan Smith, 29, of Wooster.

Adrian was treated at the scene for minor injuries, while Smith was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation. The patrol said all the drivers were wearing seat belts, and speed and alcohol were not factors.
