Sheriff’s annual golf outing

Renter pet policy seminar

CUYAHOGA FALLS: Fair Housing Advocates Association will conduct a seminar on emotional support animals and no-pet policies at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Taylor Memorial Public Library, 2015 Third St.

The seminar is for tenants, landlords and others interested in learning about how fair housing laws impact no-pet policies when it comes to people with disabilities.

The session is free.

Democrats host FDR dinner

AKRON: The Summit County Democratic Party will hold its annual Franklin D. Roosevelt Dinner at The Tangier, 532 W. Market St., at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Officer dies; suspect held

MENTOR: Mentor police have a person in custody in connection with an early morning hit-and-run crash that killed one of its officers Sunday.

The person was being questioned, city spokesman Ante Logarusic said in an email to Advance Ohio Media in Cleveland. The person in custody has not been charged, officials told WKYC.

Mentor police have not publicly identified the officer. The identity of the officer, as well as the suspect, will be released at a Monday morning news conference, Logarusic said.

The fatal crash happened about 1 a.m. as the officer assisted on a traffic stop in the eastbound lane of state Route 2 near Route 306. The officer was taken to TriPoint Medical Center, where he died.

Five shot outside of bar

SANDUSKY: Five people were shot early Sunday outside of a bar in Sandusky.

According to a report from The Toledo Blade, the shooting was reported about 1:45 a.m. outside the Milan Road Bar and Grill, police Lt. Richard Braun said.

At least one person was taken to a hospital via a medical helicopter, Braun said. It’s unclear how seriously the others were injured.

Police found more than 70 shell casings outside the bar, Braun said. There was no word of arrests.

Man missing in river

ATHENS: Emergency crews continued the search Sunday for a man reported missing in the Hocking River in southeast Ohio.

The Athens County Emergency Management Agency reports that the Athens Fire Department was dispatched about 8 p.m. Saturday on a report that a 29-year-old man was in the river in Athens and was swept downstream.

First responders did not find any sign of the man and dispatched rescue boats to search the river.
