Four killed in shooting
CANTON: Four people and a dog were killed in a shooting Thursday afternoon, police said.
The shooting happened in the 500 block of Smith Avenue Northwest. The Stark County Coroner’s office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating.
The bodies of two women and two men were found after officers received a call around 1:38 p.m. reporting that someone had discovered the gruesome scene inside the home. Police said the shooting probably occurred not much earlier than the call.
Canton Police Chief Bruce Lawver said it appeared one of the dead may have been the shooter and that it was being investigated as a domestic incident. Names of the victims were not immediately released.

Merriman Road reopens
AKRON: The large portion of Merriman Road in Northwest Akron that was closed for months for sewer work opened to traffic this week.
The stretch of road will be resurfaced in early summer.
The work is part of a massive sewer project, estimated to cost more than $1 billion, and designed to curb sewage overflows into local waterways.
Also along Merriman Road, during the construction period, Dominion East Ohio replaced natural gas lines and the city replaced lead water lines with copper ones in the area.
The city announced the opening of the stretch of road — a major connector from Merriman Valley to West Akron and the city’s downtown — in a Twitter post: “Merriman Road has been opened to through traffic!”
Accompanying the post was a picture of actor Chuck Norris giving a thumbs-up.
Home hit by bullets

The residents were home at the time, but no one was injured, according to the Akron Police Department’s daily log.

Man’s body found in ditch
STREETSBORO: Authorities discovered a man dead in a ditch Thursday in Streetsboro following a report of a possible body there, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Sheriff’s officers, Streetsboro Police, the Mantua Fire Department and an investigator from the Portage County Coroner’s office responded to the scene in the 2600 block of Invernest Street.
They found the body of a man facedown in a ditch with 3 to 5 inches of water running through it. The man appeared to be in his 20s, 5-foot-7 and about 125 to 145 pounds.
An initial examination of the body found no signs of foul play, and authorities said the death appeared to be accidental. The investigation is ongoing, and the body was taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
The man has been positively identified, authorities said late Thursday, but his name was not immediately released.
