MALONE UNIVERSITY

New board leader named

CANTON: Ruhlin Group President Rod Neuenschwander has been named chair of the Malone University board of trustees.

Neuenschwander, a 1999 graduate of Malone, was elected to a three-year term and has spent six years as board vice chair and chair of the Finance Committee. He succeeds David Murray, who recently finished his second term as chair of the Malone board.

Neuenschwander’s wife, Liz, also is a Malone graduate.

“I’m honored to be asked to serve Malone in this capacity,” he said in a prepared statement. “When Liz and I look back at our Malone days, the quality education we received, it’s impossible to put a value on all that we received. For us, to be able to play a small part in helping other students have this experience is priceless.”

Area man dies in prison

MARION: A Coventry Township man serving a state prison sentence for child pornography has died.

Craig J. Provence, 69, died Monday while at the North Central Correctional Institution in Marion, the Marion County Coroner’s Office said.

An autopsy had not been conducted and the death remained under investigation, an investigator said.

Officials from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction could not be reached for comment.

Provence was arrested in September 2016 after the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force found he had downloaded child porn images.

He pleaded guilty in March 2017 to second-degree pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and was sentenced to three years in prison. He also was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Provence requested an early judicial release in December, but the request was denied.
