BATH TWP.: During its March 19 meeting, the Revere Board of Education approved an agreement with Security Voice to provide the district with a 24-hour Safe School Helpline to better ensure the safety and security of its students, staff, buildings, etc.

The helpline will include phone, Internet and text contact numbers available for callers to anonymously and confidentially provide information about any suspected or potential dangers.  The free, 800 number is staffed by professionals trained to evaluate the level of threat in any call, said Revere Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer David Forrest.

“This is important for the security for our students and staff, etc., but it is also now required by law,” said Forrest.

Revere will pay $.81 per student, or about $2,300, for this security.

The Safe Schools Helpline is in compliance with the Jessica Logan Act, which was passed in Ohio last year, and which requires school districts to expand their policies to prohibit harassment, intimidation or cyberbullying. Logan was the Ohio teen who committed suicide several years ago after a sexting incident.

The district will circulate posters and place the information on its website, along with other ways of publicizing the numbers.

The contact Safe Schools information is 1-800-418-6423, ext. 359 or www.safeschoolhelpline.com or text 66746, then type TIPS.
