A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person who struck an Akron police officer on the head with a beer bottle during a bar fight early Saturday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight Saturday at Mango’s Bar, 627 S. Arlington St. Officers followed a suspicious person into the bar and confronted the suspect, who they said turned resistant and required a stun gun to subdue him.

That’s when the crowd in the bar reportedly “turned on the officers” and a bar fight erupted, police said.

One man allegedly pepper sprayed an officer, and someone else threw a beer bottle and struck an officer in the head.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital for treatment of a laceration to his head. He is on injury leave from the department and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

Antoine Jackson, 32, who allegedly used the pepper spray was charged with assaulting a police officer, inducing panic, resisting arrest and obstructing official business. Six others were charged with rioting and similar offenses on accusations of participating in the bar fight.
