About river otters

Body length: 38 to 47 inches (head to tail).

Height: 7 to 10 inches.

Weight: 15 to 20 pounds.

Life expectancy: 10 to 15 years.

Migration: Year-round residents, but young might travel 10 to 20 miles to establish own territories.

Feeding time: At night or twilight.

Diet: Fish, aquatic insects, crayfish, snakes and, to lesser degree, waterfowl and mammals.

Mating: Monogamous.

Peak breeding: March to April.

Litter size: Two or three pups. Young are born in February, March or April.
