SAGAMORE HILLS TWP.: A 16-year-old boy was seriously injured after being shot with a pellet gun while he was weed whacking at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the 8100 block of North Boyden Road.

Police Chief David Hayes reported Wednesday that two male juveniles and one 18-year-old male drove down North Boyden Road and one of them shot a pellet gun, striking the teen. The victim was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with what Hayes called a “serious” wound to the abdomen.

Hayes said the victim is likely to be hospitalized for at least a few days, and the reason for the shooting is unknown pending further investigation.

The chief said police tracked down the two juvenile suspects shortly after the shooting, questioned and released them, but officers are still looking for the 18-year-old suspect.

Hayes said felony charges could be filed once officers determine who the shooter was.
