STOW: K-9 units are a substantial attribute of a police department.
Trained to assist officers and enforce public order, police dogs are valued and treated just like their two-legged counterparts. The Bulldog Benefit Ride recognizes the Stow and Munroe Falls Police K-9 units as important members of the community.
Stow-Munroe Falls City School District has announced a community cycling event coined, the Bulldog Benefit Ride. This event is designed to help support and raise money for Stow's and Munroe Falls' K-9 units.
Event chairperson Jacquie Mazziotta said in a statement the cycling event will take place on May 11, with routes of 11 miles and 25 miles.
The 11-mile route will start at Stow-Munroe Falls High School, head towards Silver Lake, then to Brust Park in Munroe Falls and eventually loops back to the high school. The 25-mile route will begin at the high school and travel the entirety of the Metro Parks bike path.
Mazziotta said there will be a fun walk on the high school track for those who are not avid cyclists.
“We are looking forward to a fun event for the district’s employees and family members. This will be a great opportunity to meet other employees in many of the district’s school buildings while having fun. One of the best things about the Bulldog Benefit Ride is that family members can participate too, regardless of fitness level,” Mazziotta said in a statement.
The cost to participate in the event is $25 dollars per adult, $10 per child and $40 dollars per family participating. All participants will receive a t-shirt as a part of th enterance fee.
K-9 units will be appearing and providing a demonstration for participants. Music and entertainment will also be available.
Steve Pierce, Kristen Jagger, Sandy Weaver, Mary Lou Muckleroy, Matt Hereda, Linda Laubach and Jen McGovern are the committee members involved with planning the Bulldog Benefit Ride.
“I'm so excited to be a part of the Bulldog Benefit Ride,” McGovern said. “Not only does it promote fitness and fun within our staff and with our families, but also gives back to our local Police Department.
"What a great event and opportunity for SMF staff!”
