A man suspected of posing as a police officer so he could sexually assault a 9-year-old Massillon girl has been arrested by Fairfield County authorities, Beacon Journal news partner NewsNet5.com reported Wednesday.

Massillon police identified Dennis L. Menefee Jr., 46, of Port Washington, as the suspect in the case. He was arrested by the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office and charged with first-degree felony counts of rape and kidnapping and first-degree misdemeanor counts of assault and aggravated menacing.

The girl told police she was walking home from the library at about 6 p.m. Monday when a man gained her trust near Second Street Northeast and Cherry Road Northeast, according to NewsNet5.

The man coerced her into a pickup truck and sexually assaulted her inside. She escaped and told her stepfather what happened to her.

NewsNet5.com reported the incident is not thought to be connected to similar abductions in Cleveland and Lorain County earlier this year.
