TALLMADGE: Police are investigating after a woman reported she was robbed of more than $4,000 outside the East Avenue PNC Bank branch Sunday morning.

“He just kind of walked up, knocked her off balance and grabbed her purse,” Police Chief Ron Williams said.

He said the woman was uninjured, and no weapon was seen.

According to a police report, the robbery took place a little after 10 a.m. Williams said the woman, an assistant manager at a Circle K service station on Brittain Road in Akron, was carrying about $4,420 in money belonging to the service station in her purse, which also contained the woman’s driver’s license, bank card and other personal items.

Williams said the suspect is described as a white male, late teens to late 20s in age, about 5-foot-10 with a “small body frame,” and wearing a black or dark blue hooded sweatshirt and dark sweatpants.

“The hood was up over his head. He had a white mask on,” Williams said.

An Akron woman and a Rootstown man who drove into the bank’s parking lot after the incident reported seeing the suspect run behind the building, where police said he may have had a vehicle.

Police searched the area, but were unable to find the suspect.

Williams said police are looking at security video from the bank and other nearby businesses.
