CINCINNATI: Tea party activists plan a town hall-style forum about the Internal Revenue Service after disclosures that the agency employees singled out conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

A Cincinnati tea party leader, George Brunemann, says in a statement that the IRS shouldn’t be used by either major party as a political weapon. He claims his family was targeted because of tea party activism.

Members of national groups including the Tea Party Patriots and FreedomWorks are also expected to take part in the Wednesday evening forum. Organizers say U.S. Reps. Steve Chabot (SHA’-but) and Brad Wenstrup are also expected to speak. Both are Republicans representing the Cincinnati area.

IRS employees in a Cincinnati office are tied to what federal officials have acknowledged was inappropriate targeting of conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status.
