Three finalists for the University of Akron presidency will be on campus this week.

Each man will spend an entire day interviewing with the many groups ó students, faculty, deans, etc. ó that have helped to define the qualities sought in the person who will succeed Luis Proenza as UAís next leader.

Each finalist will appear at a public forum at the UA Student Union Theatre while on campus. This is the schedule and a brief look at the candidates:

Ronald Nykiel

When: Today.

Current job: Provost, vice president for academic affairs, University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.

About Maryland Eastern Shore: A historically black college; part of University of Maryland system; 3,300 students, 93 percent of them undergraduates.

His credentials: Bachelorís degree, liberal arts, State University of New York; masterís degree, Spanish, Penn State; doctorate, management, Walden University, which is part of a network of private and online universities owned by Laureate Education Inc.

Public forum: 3 to 4 p.m.

Scott Scarborough

When: Wednesday.

Current job: Provost, executive vice president for academic affairs, University of Toledo.

About University of Toledo: Tax-supported; 23,000 students.

His credentials: Bachelorís, accounting, University of Texas at Austin; MBA, University of Texas at Tyler; doctorate, strategic management, University of Texas at Arlington. ... Promoted from chief financial officer to provost, chief financial officer, at UT in 2012; previously spent two years heading the universityís medical center.

Public forum: 3 to 4 p.m.

Jim Tressel

When: Thursday.

Current job: Executive vice president, student success, University of Akron.

About UA: Tax-supported, 27,000 students, facing budget shortfall and shrinking enrollment.

His credentials: Bachelorís, education, Baldwin-Wallace College; masterís, education, University of Akron. ... Won five national championships as football coach at Youngstown State and Ohio State. Resigned from OSU in 2011 amid NCAA investigation about rule violations. ... Also in contention for the presidency at Youngstown State. ... Two honorary doctor of humane letters: Baldwin Wallace, Youngstown State.

Public forum: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
