Jackson Township trustees unanimously accepted Police Chief David Zink’s recommendation to promote Detective Jason Collins to sergeant.
Collins, with 15 years of service in Jackson, replaces Sergeant David A. McDonald, who retired on April 30.
Collins was selected from 12 candidates, all serving in the Jackson Township Police Department. His promotion comes with a 365-day probation period.
Trustees also swore in Jeffery M. Caughey, one of five part-time patrol officers appointed at the June 6 township meeting. Caughey was required to pass a psychological and physical evaluation, background check, provide a certificate from the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and have negative results on drug and other screening tests.
Other candidates expected to be sworn in are Jack V. Henderson, Michael P. Maiser, Gregory A. Patterson Jr. and Jordan M. Starcher.
