Senior citizens and caregivers have an opportunity to receive important information at the Wadsworth Center for Older Adults' Senior and Caregiver Expo and Medicare Checkup from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.

According to Lori Fultz, the center's activity and volunteer coordinator, a number of health screenings will be available including blood glucose, bone density, blood pressure, diabetes, posture, balance, glaucoma and ear checks. In addition, flu shots will be available through the CVS Pharmacy.

Fultz noted caregivers will be treated like VIPs. Caregivers are those who in any way care for a senior spouse, parent, neighbor or friend. All caregivers should register at the VIP desk to receive a special gift.

Over 70 vendors will be available for consultation and explanation of the services they provide. Vendors include home health care providers, an attorney, the Veterans Administration, Faith in Action, FISH, assisted living providers, nursing homes, medical suppliers and a company that offers packing services. Those who attend will be given an opportunity to vote on the vendor with the best display.

A free Medicare checkup will also be available through the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program at the Ohio Department of Insurance. This service will explain recent changes to Medicare and provide information on how to enroll in a 2013 prescription drug and/or a health plan.

The theme is "Fall Football/Tailgating" so Fultz urges attendees to wear the colors of their favorite team, whether it be the Wadsworth Grizzlies or a college or professional team.

Many door prizes will be given out and a free lunch will be available for all who attend, Fultz added. Fultz acknowledged preparations are being made for 300 to attend but said, "the more, the merrier."

The program is provided by the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, the Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program and the Wadsworth Center for Older Adults, located at 138 High St.
