PARMA, OHIO: Officials say a worker at a General Motors plant in suburban Cleveland was injured by machinery and later died.

Police tell WEWS-TV in Cleveland that authorities were contacted Tuesday afternoon about a worker trapped by machinery at the metal processing plant in Parma.

GM spokesman Tom Mock said the accident occurred at the start of the second shift and confirmed the worker later died at a hospital. The worker’s name and other details of what happened were not immediately released.

The spokesman says company and union officials have a joint investigative team looking into what happened.

Part of the plant was shut down after the accident.

The facility produces steel parts and employs about 1,500 people.
