Working in Progress Inc., a nonprofit that works to reduce poverty by supporting Akron youth, is hosting a town hall meeting for teenage students at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St.

Students will have the chance to discuss topics like community and gun violence, cultural diversity, LGBTQ advocacy, bullying, social media, youth and police relations, and government policies.

Students, most of them in high school, will moderate discussions on the topics, and then they will open it up to audience members to give their input.

The event is open to people of all ages.

The topics were selected based on student polls asking kids what issues they want to discuss.

“[Kids] have solutions too, and they’re like, ‘Well nobody’s asking us,’ ” said Tammy Monroe, the president of Working in Progress. “We wanted to give them a platform to do that.”

Attending students will have the opportunity to win a $50 gift card.
