Militants storm charity

Taliban militants attacked an American charity and a nearby day care center Friday, sending foreigners — including women and children — fleeing while Afghan security forces battled the gunmen. An Afghan girl, a driver and all five attackers were killed.


Golan Heights incident

The Israeli military said it shot and hit two armed suspects from Syria who crossed into the Israeli-held Golan Heights. The Israeli army said the two suspects were discovered entering the Israeli side of the border and tampering with the security barrier along the frontier. The army would not comment on their condition.


Ebola reaches capital

Health officials in the West African nation of Guinea said Friday they’re now treating eight cases of Ebola in Conakry, the capital. Dr. Sakoba Keita, a spokesman for the health ministry, announced on national television the virus had reached the city of 3 million. Keita said Friday at least 70 people have died in the country’s south since the Ebola outbreak began last week.


Gunmen attack church

A Kenyan official said police have killed two men suspected of being terrorists who fatally shot six people in a church. Mombasa County Police Chief Robert Kitur said Friday the gunmen were killed by officers after a gunfight in the Likoni area of the coastal city of Mombasa.


Courthouse shooting

A man was shot and killed after opening fire in a courthouse just outside Toronto, injuring a police officer on Friday, officials said. Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit said a man entered the court house in Brampton, Ontario and fired shots, injuring a police officer in the security screening area before being shot dead by police. The wounded officer was in stable condition.
