From two eco-groups in Athens County:
Athens County to Rally at K&H Site for Local Control Over Injection Wells
Athens county residents will gather near the K&H fracking waste storage tanks (on Rt 50 between Torch and Coolville, Google Maps Coordinates 39.23607, -8175864) Saturday at 3PM to protest the permitting of the K&H2 injection well by ODNR. This well is opposed by Athens County commissioners, the Athens City Council, and residents.
The theme of the event is “OUR WATER, OUR LIVES, THEIR POISON, THEIR LIES” and will focus on local control over injection well permitting, water contamination with toxic chemicals, and the inevitability of a chemical spill similar to last month's in West Virginia.
Speaking at a public hearing in Athens County on November 19th, former County Commisioner Roxanne Groff stated that "the underground injection program in the State of Ohio is government at its absolute worst."
The rally will be organized by members of Appalachia Resist and the Athens County Fracking Action Network (ACFAN). Further information, including an in-depth timeline of the legal battle over the K&H 2 well site, can be found at www.acfan.org
