Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. is releasing its award-winning and seasonal Emancipator Doppelbock for the first time in cans.

The beer will be available in six-packs of 12-ounce cans, along with draft starting at 4 p.m. Friday (Jan. 21) at the Malt House Taproom in Cincinnati. Emancipator Doppelbock won a silver medal at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival.

Emancipator, which is 7 percent alcohol by volume, also will be blessed at 7 p.m. by the neighboring St. Francis Seraph Church.

"We are excited to carry on the traditional blessing of our Emancipator Doppelbock with our Franciscan neighbors from St. Francis Seraph and to honor the original Franciscan Hermits of Paula from 1634 and their brewing of the first doppelbock," Christian Moerlein owner Greg Hardman said in a prepared statement.

After the taproom release, the beer will be available throughout the market and during this year’s Bockfest (March 2-4) at the brewery.
