The Columbus Brewing Co. Restaurant will close on Aug. 31 and reopen a few weeks later with a new name — Oxbow on Short.

The restaurant, at 525 Short St., will be renovated to give it an updated look, and all exterior signs will be replaced.

The change comes as part of a settlement between the restaurant and Columbus Brewing Co., the brewery, which shared a building and a name, but had different owners.

The brewery, owned by Eric and Beth Bean, sued the restaurant, owned by Doug Griggs and Mike Campbell, to force a name change. The parties settled last year, and the restaurant was given time to make the transition.

Oxbow on Short is a nod to the area along Short Street that was once known as the Oxbow, after the nearby bend in the Scioto River.

Along with aesthetic changes the dinner menu will be reworked to focus on small plates and shareable items. The lunch menu will not change much, according to General Manager Rusty Scarberry.

“It will be a nice, fresh start for us,” Scarberry said.
