HiHO Brewing Co. will celebrate a successful first year with a three-day anniversary party this weekend. (Jan. 5-7)

"We've been blown away from the support in the community and from other brewers," co-founder Ali Hovan said. "I know it sounds cheesy but thanks for making our dream come true."

She noted that HiHO has produced more beer than expected in its first year and expanded faster than she and her husband and brewer Jon Hovan anticipated. The Cuyahoga Falls seven-barrel brewery produced about 450 barrels in its first year, Ali Hovan estimated.

"We learned that people in Ohio really love beer," she said. "It was beyond our expectations."

The brewery and tasting room, which sits on Front Street and overlooks the Cuyahoga River, has become a popular destination, especially for events, thanks in part to the open and expansive 6,000-square-foot space.

As for the celebration, HiHO has lined up special food, music and beer. Here's the rundown:

Friday: Tapping of a firkin of Touchdown Brown with raspberries at 5 p.m.; The Pierogi Lady at 5 p.m.; and DJ Ben H spinning records at 7 p.m.

Saturday: Tapping of a firkin of Gorges Blonde Ale with tangerines at 5 p.m.; That Hawaiian Guys BBQ at 5 p.m.; and Youngest Sons performing at 6 p.m.

Sunday: A HiHO brunch from noon to 5 p.m.; and JD & Ken performing at 1 p.m.

The brewery also now has a nitro tap and is serving its Touchdown Brown on nitro.

HiHO has big plans heading into its second year. The brewery is starting a barrel-aging program, is looking into expanding its food menu and wants to expand its local distribution.
