Ohio Brewing Co. and Annabellís Bar & Lounge are launching the inaugural Highland Square Oktoberfest.

The event, set for 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 9, will feature vendors, food, live music and a beer garden. It will be held in two locations in the Akron neighborhood: outside the Ohio brewpub on South Highland Avenue and behind Annabellís.

The Highland Square Oktoberfest will highlight, as you might expect, Ohio Brewing beers, including the seasonal Ohiofest.

The event is free to attend, but people must be 21 to be admitted to the beer garden. Beer and food tickets will be sold, with profits benefiting American Legion Post 19.

Ohio co-owner Chris Verich, who lives in the neighborhood, said he decided to host the event after he learned that Square Fest wonít be held this year. "I figured there would be a void left in the community," he said.

The Oktoberfest will not be the size of Square Fest, but more of a "little block party," he said.
