Warped Wing Brewing Co.†in Dayton†will release Kette's Pride this week (Nov. 8), a new limited-edition beer that celebrates The Century's upcoming 1920s inspired speakeasy called Kette's Kandies.

Kette's Pride is a porter aged in rye whiskey barrels that clocks in at 8.4 percent alcohol by volume.

"The beer is coal black in color with aromas of cocoa, vanilla and bourbon and notes of dark roasted malt, bourbon and hints of wood with tannins from the barrel," brewmaster†John Haggerty said in a prepared statement.

The beer, available in draft only, will be released at 5 p.m. at The Century. It also will be available in the Warped Wing taproom.

The name stems from the former Kette and Sons Whiskey Co., which operated on South Jefferson Street from 1909 to 1913, the brewery said. The building was destroyed by fire and with Prohibition looming, Kette opted to leave the whiskey business and open a candy store instead.

"That inspired the name and store front for our new speakeasy lounge," The†Centuryís Joe Head said in a statement. "Itís a great story and we want people to experience the rich heritage Dayton had during that place and period in time."
