The Malheur Wildlife Refuge standoff in Oregon is over. One "patriot", Robert Lavoy Finicum, is dead, and Ryan Bundy was shot. The incident happened as the leaders of the refuge occupation were on their way to a a community meeting in Burns.

(Ryan Bundy) was treated and released from a local hospital and was in FBI custody, authorities said.

Also arrested during the stop were his brother, Ammon Bundy, 40, of Emmett, Idaho, Ryan W. Payne, 32, of Anaconda, Mont., Brian Cavalier, 44, of Bunkerville, Nevada, and Shawna J. Cox, 59, of Kanab, Utah. They were charged with conspiracy to impede federal officers, a felony.

There's another GOP Clown "debate" tomorrow evening in Iowa. Again, the GOP network, Fox, is hosting the event. But look who's not participating.....

Trump camp manager @CLewandowski_ confirms to WaPo that Trump is “definitely not” participating in Fox New debate. “His word is his bond."

His campaign put out a statement Tuesday night confirming the candidate “will not be participating in the FOX News debate and will instead host an event in Iowa to raise money for the Veterans and Wounded Warriors.”

Trump says that Fox has been "playing games" with him, whatever that means.

The Trump campaign took to the snark to explain The Donald's decision not to participate....

“In a call on Saturday with a FOX News executive, (Trump campaign manager) Lewandowski stated that Megyn had a ‘rough couple of days after that last debate’ and he ‘would hate to have her go through that again,’” a Fox News statement said late Tuesday.

And Fox called Trump a terrorizer....

“Lewandowski was warned not to level any more threats, but he continued to do so. We can’t give in to terrorizations toward any of our employees,” the statement added.

Is Trump punishing Roger Ailes....and Fox by keeping his "brand" out of tomorrow night's debate? Or is Trump satisfied with his polling numbers heading into Iowa and doesn't want to take a chance something might go wrong in the debate? Who knows? Who cares?

The proprietor of "principled conservatives" at Redstate, Leon Wolf, typed out a funny....

Thank God that Fox News finally realized that they are strong enough on their own merits that they will continue to be healthy and profitable without the presence of The Donald in one of their debates. At long last, someone in the media realized that their long-term credibility might be more important than a one-time boost in ratings for a debate that will frankly draw pretty well even without Trump’s presence.

"their long term credibility".....now, that's a scream.

Here's a great line from National Review's Jonah Goldberg....in a piece entitled, "This time. the Conservative Crackup is Real"....

I've been hearing about the impending “conservative crackup” for nearly 25 years.....thanks to Donald Trump, tomorrow may be here.

Here I thought Christmas was over.

Martin Longman of the Booman Tribune and the Washington Monthly has a very good piece up here. You should read it. Here's a taste....

My experience with the modern Republican Party has been one of slowly growing awareness. I started out thinking that the Republicans were decent people who had different priorities and that it would be preferable to have a Democratic president but not catastrophic if we did not. The immediate excesses of the Gingrich Revolution began to make me wonder though. Shutting down the government seemed extreme. Their rhetoric about the Clintons and their investigations (remember Vince Foster, may he rest in peace) seemed deeply unhinged. But Bob Dole, as much as I distrusted him, wasn’t some Caligula.

Then they impeached President Clinton and published a salacious report about his affair with Monica Lewinsky. That’s when I knew that I’d misjudged these people. They were truly radicals.

Finally for now.....here is the Republican strategist, Alex Castellanos, talking....well....like I do....

I think a lot of the fault, actually, belongs to the conservative intellectual leadership of America that you see in this issue of "National Review." The conservative cause that animates the Republican Party, we don't appeal to young people, we don't appeal to millennials, we don't appeal to young women, we don't appeal to minorities. We appeal to only cranky old white guys like me.

5 days til Iowa.....and career Republican servants don't know whether to shite...or go blind.

Best. Election. Season. Ever.
