Canton is launching the First Friday Brew Bus to shuttle craft beer fans between downtown and Royal Docks Brewing Co. in Jackson Township.

Two Stark Area Regional Transit Authority buses will run from 6 to 10 p.m. during this week's First Friday festivities. Whether the free rides continue in the future depends on the response this week, organizers said.

“The Brew Bus provides easy, safe and fun transportation for those who want to explore breweries, bars, art venues and live music in downtown Canton and Jackson Township,” Mike Gill, vice president of economic development for the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, said in a prepared statement. “Our aim with the bus service is to introduce some new faces to both Royal Docks and First Friday.”

The buses are a collaborative effort among the chamber, Downtown Canton Special Improvement District, Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce, Canton First Friday, Royal Docks, Buzzbin Art & Music Shop and SARTA.

“We’re hoping the buses are packed so we can continue this…” Royal Docks owner John Bikis said.

The buses will begin running at 6 p.m. One will depart from the corner of Cleveland Avenue and Fourth Street Northwest in Canton, while the other will leave from Royal Docks in the Noble's Pond Plaza.

They will run every half-hour, with the last ride leaving at 9:30 p.m. Riders are permitted to take beer, wine or cocktails purchased in downtown Canton or Royal Docks on the bus.

The first 100 riders will receive a First Friday Brew Bus T-shirt. Royal Docks also will provide empty growlers and a $10 gift card to the first 24 riders coming from downtown.
