Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. will hold a special toast at midnight Saturday (March 1) to celebrate two company anniversaries. March 1 marks the the 10th anniverary of the Cincinnati brewery under owner Greg Hardman and it's also the 161st anniversary of the company’s founding by Christian Moerlein in 1853.



The party begins at 4 p.m. Friday (Feb. 28) at the brewery's Malt House Taproom on Moore Street in Over-the-Rhine. Live music begins at 9 p.m.



Christian Moerlein has brewed a limited edition Moerlein 10/161 barrel-aged beer to commemorate the occasion. It's a winter warmer that clocks in at 10 percent alcohol by volume.



The event also will mark the soft opening of the Wienerwurst Mike Frankfurtary, a 19th century deli and frankfurtary reminiscent of the actual Wienerwurst Mike's that frequented and sold sandwiches to beer hall patrons, the brewery said. S&J Bakery and Cafe in the Findlay Market is behind the eatery.



"It has been a privilege and honor over the past 10 years to be a part of helping to restore Cincinnati’s grand brewing traditions," Hardman, chief executive officer of Christian Moerlein, said in a prepared statement. “Thank you, Cincinnati for your love and support.”



Hardman has become Cincinnati's newest beer baron. He rescued old brands from the former Hudepohl-Schoenling Brewing Co. such as Hudepohl, Burger and Little Kings and brought Christian Moerlein back to the city. He also opened the Moerlein Lager House along the Ohio River and the Christian Moerlein production brewery and tasting room in Over-the-Rhine.
