The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is putting a spin this week on the traditional beer festival.

Instead of hosting a beer tasting, the zoo — complete with animals — is going on the road to a brewery.

The zoo will be at Rhinegeist Brewery in Cincinnati from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday (March 30) for Zoogeist, a fundraising event that will include visits by a cheetah, Eurasian eagle owl, screaming hairy armadillo and boa. The fundraiser supports the zoo's educational programs.

“Rhinegeist and the zoo’s community outreach team members teamed up after one of their community events, Drink Like a Fishing Cat in 2016, ended up being their most successful fundraiser,” zoo spokeswoman Angela Hatke said in an email. “Rhinegeist wanted to do something bigger and better and lucky for us, they wanted to include the zoo again!”

The result is Zoogeist, which will feature Honey Ginger Cougar, Sexy Panther, Juicy Truth and other Rhinegeist beers.

The event is free to attend and there will be several animals in the tasting room. But the cheetah encounter is reserved for VIP ticket-holders. Those VIP tickets, which were $30, have sold out.

It's the first time that the zoo has held a fundraiser at a brewery, but Zoogeist is far from the only craft beer-related event put on by the Cincinnati Zoo. Zoo Brew is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 5.
