The Supreme Court issued its ruling yesterday on the abortion clinic "buffer zone" free speech case originating in the state of Massachusetts. Un-effing-believably...the Court ruled 9-0 in favor of abortion "protesters" and against women seeking a legal abortion.
This one is impossible to accept. Three "liberal" female Justices voted for the rights of simply awful, awful people....to harass, harangue, intimidate, or threaten women trying to enter abortion clinics. How the hell is that even possible? And make no mistake about this terrible ruling....it has nothing to do with free speech rights....that's simply a fig leaf.
This case is about abortion and whether the American version of the Taliban can continue to "work the edges and the refs" stopping women from exercising their legal right to access abortion services. Katie McDonough at Salon.com gets it right when she states that the "speech", the f**king "gentle counseling" that John Roberts deems worthy of protection conveys one message, and only one....."Do what we tell you or we will kill you."
Dr. Warren Hern of Boulder, Colorado.....talking about his first hand experience with abortion "gentle counselor" protesters.....
I can’t use the front door of my office and I can’t drive out the front driveway with the protesters there. Because all of the doctors who have been assassinated have been assassinated by so-called protesters. All the other people have been killed in Boston and Alabama and so on have been killed by so-called peaceful protesters who “went over the edge.” This is the ultimate expression of what they’re saying. If they can’t use the coercive power of the state to get people to do what they want them to do, they will kill them! And the message from the antiabortion movement, which is the face of fascism in America, is, “Do what we tell you to do, or we will kill you.”
Adding exponentially to the WTF-nature of the Court's 9-0 ruling here is the fact that the Supreme Court building has its own buffer zone which limits, you know, free speech protesters from getting too close to the building where the Supremes work. How big is the Supreme Court building buffer zone? 252 feet. But 35 feet was just too goddamn restrictive for U.S. Taliban fighters to exercise their right to intimidate and threaten women trying to enter abortion clinics. The word, hypocrisy, doesn't even begin to capture the rot.
Furthermore, I would disagree that this case is about free speech rights. Yes, yes, I realize all the really, really smart people insist that it is.....but that doesn't prove anything. Most of what's wrong in America today is because of people being dishonest about their real intentions.
What is the objective of the "gentle counseling" John Roberts speaks of so fondly? To reverse an individual woman's decision to have an abortion, a decision that has already been made by the time U.S. Taliban members gather to harass and intimidate that woman. If U.S. Taliban members seek prohibitions on women having access to abortion providers....then why don't they protest in front of the Capitol or in front of offices of politicians.....who, you know, write the effing laws?
Instead, these hateful, disgusting people choose the most vulnerable and weakest to harass and harangue. Why? Because their viewpoint is not held by the majority of Americans. Because these folks do not have enough representative votes in Washington to overturn Roe. So, in their bitterness, they choose to terrorize the weakest in the village....just like the Afghan Taliban do when they invoke Shariah Law by force. Did I mention that these folks are awful people?
Now, what I really think. Something stinks to high heaven in this 9-0 ruling. Because the Supreme Court is a purely political branch of government, I think a compromise agreement has been reached amongst the Justices. The Court has one more critical ruling to release.....and it is the Hobby Lobby case that I told you would be The Next Big Thing.
The Hobby Lobby contraception case is another U.S. Taliban attack on Americans, in which evangelical Taliban members who own for-profit businesses in the U.S. seek to force their religious practices onto their employees against their will.
I think the Court has agreed to strike down the Hobby Lobby complaint....and in return, progressive Justices would agree that U.S. Taliban "counselors" have the right to continue to intimidate and threaten women seeking a legal abortion....all close up and personal like.
Could be wrong.....but we'll know shortly...at least by Monday. Bush v Gore and Citizens United.....are all you need examine to understand how corrupt the modern Supreme Court has become. Justices swear they are ruling on the basis of law.....but it has been apparent for some time that Court rulings are really all about picking winners and losers, and basing those choices on political leanings.
Finally, if I'm wrong about Justices reaching a horse trade on "buffer zones", if Justices rule in favor of corporate religious conscience, in effect placing employees under the shariah law of employers, then we are all in a deeper pile of U.S. Taliban shite than I imagined.
